My 36 Pickup

I thought I would introduce myself and my project. I'm new to the Barn but have been following for a short while. I'm amazed at the knowledge here and how much I have learned already. I love anything Ford and have restored some early 8n's and just finished a 63 pickup.. I found this new project earlier this year and I can't wait to get her back on the road. I will post more pics as it progresses.

Great project, in the past a lot of us added the location (state/city) to our Avitar, Bruce in southern OHIO, just helps us know your location so if local help is needed, we come to the rescue. What a good site, always received an answer to correct all the problems or questions I had, Merry Christmas

Yes, it's nice to know at least the state someone is in. I just met a nice gentlemen in Me. that is restoring a 36 pickup. I thought this post might have been him but I guees no. Walt

NICE! Looks like a great truck to restore. Please keep it stock or somewhat close to stock, a '36 Pickup in that condition is a real head turner vs. a chopped up wild colored rod. This site is for original cars the H.A.M.B. is for street rods and they are pretty cruel over there, the guys here are a world apart---nice bunch of fellows.

You were fortunate good '35-'36 pickups are hard to locate;)

PLEASE keep us updated and show photos!!!

Thanks for the great feedback everyone, the truck was found in Montana a few years ago and was brought to southern Wisconsin by a gentleman who had the intention of restoring it. Although his intentions were good he simply didn't have the resources so he decided to sell it. That is how I came across it. My plan will be to keep the truck original but headers and dual exhaust are on my wish list, so they can hear me coming. I have the truck completely apart now and will begin with engine rebuild in spring and prepping the frame for repaint. I just purchased mechanical brake energizers from Flathead Ted last week. I'm in central Wisconsin so winter will be spent sandblasting many parts and hoping for an early spring. I have a 36 engine needing overhaul but I just picked up a nice later model 38 engine and ****** that might be the better option since it has the insert type main bearings vs. insert babbit ones. It will need rebuilding as well. Any input from you guys appreciated as well on that idea. I will update with pictures during this progress and look forward to getting input from all of you.
Thanks, Pat

I have Flathead Ted Floaters on my 36 pickup they work very well. also I got headers and duel exhaust with no mufflers it sounds great

Some of the 36 engine had insert bearings. There know as LB engine, stands for late bearing. You probably have the engine out, it would be easy to pull the pan and remove the front main cap. If it has an insert I would build that engine. The LB crank is the same as the 37 and 38 21stud. I wouldn't bore the 36 engine over .060 they have thin walls. The 37 you can bore .125 A friend is restoring a 36 pickup, he just had the blocked cleaned and the was rotted through the side of the block. Walt

welcome 36 & 33, just a bunch of great people here and fun, enjoy your project, and join a couple social groups! gump

36and63-----NICE pickup it will look great when you finish, looks good now!

Our '36 has headers and dual exhaust and it sounds good! Those kind of modifications are only bolt-ons and can be put back to bone stock real easy.

Keep us updated with pictures we want to see how you are coming!

Man, some guys have all the luck finding '36's !

Here is one with all 46 Mercury running gear, an it been this way sence 1960. Has an elephant skin finish, but its alot of fun to drive, your going to enjoy your pickup, when its running.

Thought I would submit some photos of the progress on my 36 pickup for everyone. It has been a lot of work but it is coming along really nice. I'll be posting some more pics of the engine as well.

I had a 36 engine but unfortunately we were unable to rebuild finding numerous cracks. I ended up rebuilding the 38 engine I had and I'm really happy. Big thanks to Al at Metal-Crafters and I have to mention Uncle Max, Bubba's and Skip Haney. These guys are the best. After I installed the engine she fired right up! The dual carbs and headers are the only major changes and now it is on to the body work. I hope to have her on the road next summer.

Thanks to the knowledge shared on the Forum, it really helps when I'm at a loss for answers to my questions as well.
