My '35 Phaeton

I found and purchased this car in Sept. I bought it from a 80 y.o. guy from Seattle that had bought it 40 plus years ago in San Diego. When I got it he had collected all of the TCI, CE stuff to MII it, parallel leaf kit etc. Luckily he didn't update anything! I left the stock diff in it but flattened the rear x-member and fabbed some tube shock mounts. I dropped the stock axle in my jig, reveresed the spring and removed a couple. I also rebuilt a '39 trans for it and installed a 283 in it. The w/s posts were cut already and I cut the w/s frame. Plans are for a chopped roof too, but I'll make my own bows and save the mint stock ones. I did not cut anything and plans call for a warmed over flatty in the future.
Felt good to drive it on friday for the first time in over 4 decades!

Looking good Shiny, Gotta love these old Fords in any shape or form. I thought I could see an OHV SB Chubby in there but hey the warmed up Flatty will be even better. Keep posting your progress. It's good to hear about and see these old Fords being rescued and put back on the road where they belong :D :) JM

nice car shiny hope you enjoy it as much as i do mine ,top engine choice to they fit with no damage to the originality of the car .how did you couple the replacement engine to the 39 trans? i used a 3/8 steel adapter plate and a 8ba truck bellhousing on mine

You already know how I feel about it Shiny! :D

A waste of a once very valuable scarce model!

He kept the axle and sold off the MII stuff. There are far worse offenders out in the world! Like this gem!

What do you mean? Its even more scarce now cuz its the lowest coolest '35 Phaeton around and when its filled with six huge smiles and laughing friends riding around in it it will be even more scarce cuz who else will have six happy people ripping around in a car as cool as this??

Tub1, I got an old Cragar adaptor from a great bud in Cali. Took me a bit to figure out the clutch setup cuz you can;t buy a 49-51 Merc PP any more:rolleyes:

The car is a blast! Were having so much fun in it. We'll be taking it down to BilletProof next week for a really fun time. Just the wifey and I, no kids! Can't wait!!

Thats cool Use the original bows and keep the 283 , been across country about 8 times with mine, You can travel 80 mph and get good mileage.
good luck

Strever, thanks!

34phae, I want to keep the original bows but don't know if I want to cut them. Did you cut yours? Got any hints? I may build some news bows out of 3/4" conduit and keep the bows for later.

he shiny i used a 9 in clutch and pressure plate just redrilled the other brand (chev) flywheel to suit, and a chev to ford toploader pilot bush and she all went together made a great car even better. the flathead can go back in anytime i want it to will post sum pic of my car when i work it out im not very computer litterate

I got a pilot machined up that worked awesome. I went thre lots of phonecalls to various friends, hey Wayno! And was just thinking "man this has been done since about 1955 whats the deal?" Finally I had a B&B chevy 10" pressure plate and I cut the three fingers down about 3/16" and it all went together perfectly with a 1948 Mercury truck 10" disc. Works really good!

Not an idiot! This fourm was originally for original Fords, not gargage truck engined modified stuff. It should be on the hot rod side or wherever that stuff is. This is exactly what has run off a lot of folks!
