Guys....

I am usually asking questions in the old v-8 section, but I had the chance to buy a '57 F-100 last week with a 5.0 L Engine and 5-Speed.

It has a Holley 4-Barrel on it without a choke mechanism. I've looked up on the Holley page but can't find any info on the carb itself.

Who in this section knows the most about Holley 4-Barrels that I could send a photo to and ask for help in identifying the model # ?

Many thanks.

Can you post photos of it here?
Look for any 'List' or ID numbers on it (sample below)
and put them up in your next comment.
Someone will be able to tell you what it is.

Hello Mike,

The Holley model number is 4180. Although very similar looking to the popular Holley 4150 and 4160 4 barrels, a lot of the parts are not interchangeable. Like bowls and bowl gaskets. They were used from '83 to '85 on HO 5.0L Mustangs and also on 351 trucks till about '86 ?
I have a 4180, but is also missing all of the choke parts. I have everything else basicly. I see Summit is offering rebuilts for just under $400. You can also try Mike's Carburetor parts or search online. www.carburetor-parts.com

There also should be a lot on EBAY that are good for parts.

Guys thx very much for info. I would love to post photos but I've never had any luck in posting here for some reason. You've given me good info though.

Thx

Yes, the attaching photos procedure isn't easy to figure out.

When you're creating a comment or post look just below the bottom of the text box. If there's a "Go Advanced" button click that one for the 'advanced' functions. One of which is a 'paperclip' image icon/button at the top of the new text box that opened. (it's just to the right of the smilie face button)
Clicking the paperclip icon opens a 'manage attachments' / 'browse' pop-up box to select & add photos as an attachment. If the photo file size is too large you may get an error.

Scicala and Dms........

Many thanks for info. I'm going to try to attach carb photo. I looked up the 4180 and it does not look like the one I have. Hopefully a photo will help here.

I appreciate your interest in this.

Mike,

The carb pictured is a 4180. Somebody has modified it and sawed off the choke tower, maybe thinking they would get another 100 horse power. In reality they eliminated the possibility of adding a choke. Have to live with poor driveability when first started cold. Also won't be able to get the Holley and Ford part numbers to identify, since they were stamped on the part that is now missing.

Sal thx....what the hell was that guy thinking when he altered the carb like that ? Geez......

Mike

Since you live up in cold country I'd suggest looking for a replacement carb that will be more usable.
Maybe some wanna-be racer would really love to have that 'custom' carburetor.

The previous owner trashed it,I would part company with it and go with this:https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-m08500vs/overview/ or this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rebuilt-140...nty-/131967693832?vxp=mtr&hash=item1eb9e33408 if the budget is tighter.

I'm thinking whoever did it was probably pretty young and had racing on his mind. I've done that to Holley carbs before, but only on "race only" engines.

Thx to all of you for the info. I think I'll go that way with a rebuilt one in Spring. Right now I'm replacing door windows, headliner, shocks, carpet and insulation, etc !!!
