Good Evening everyone. I am calling on all of you experts on Murray Body Plates. I have a '30 Murray Standard Three Window Fordoor, 165 C, made late in '30. I would like to have an accurate body plate and am curious about several issues. The first is length. Every reproduction plate I find is 2.5 inches long and I have purchased one that is the same length which matches to late '29. I know of an early '29, still the same length. Still, a mid year '29 measures 3.5 inches long. The original holes exist in my wood body rail measuring 2.75 inch center to center thus suggesting a 3 inch plate.
My second issue involves material and color of paint. I am thinking the earliest were zink with black paint. Later brass, first with black paint and later yellow.
Third, were all plates with raised lettering, thus stamped in from backside and some without raised letters.
Of interest as well is that while it is known earlier plates were on the wood rail or wood cross member and later on the firewall, with exception of the earliest being on firewall, another '30 earlier than mine is already on the firewall with mine still on the wood.
All ideas much appreciated and a great Saturday night to everyone.
Greg
