Mufflers or no mufflers?

Run the pipes out just behind the doors. These pipes are '36 Ford driveshaft halves, one on each side, with 8" motorcycle baffles fastened in the end of each outlet. Very respectable around town as long as you don't stand on it!

That's one of the nicest deuce roadster's I've ever seen.

And my vote goes to no mufflers.

I have no real experience with this but I did do a lot or reading and research in deciding that I would run STEEL PACK mufflers on my A Bone over straight pipes. I read everything I could and decided that 1-3/4" pipe with custom made 16" steel pack, Porter Mufflers would be the ticket. You want a good sound but without the ragged edge in my opinion. Jason...

I have a nearly stock 40 Ford motor in my 32 project with the exception of a pair of Reds headers (so I'm running duals) and a "Y" adapter for 2 deuces running progressive. Since I have little to no room to go up and over the axle, I will probably exit to either side around by and before the rear tire.

I know folks on here have said they run no mufflers but I'm just wondering if that's more the exception than the rule? I have a pair of tube glass-pack baloney-style mufflers but they can always be used on another project.

What do you all think??

Hi Tom, We missed ya here at York! I've talked to Hamtown Al Casteen several times. He had a piece of steel fly up off the road and puncture his Poly gas tank on the way up from VA. He now has a plastic gas can and an outboard motor gas line in the back of his PU with a squeeze ball fitting hooked into his gas tank line. Looks like that rig will work to get him back home
My vote on the muffler question would be to run no mufflers or if that's too loud go with motor cycle inserts or Brockmans as Vic said. The muffler went bad on my 35 4dr and I temporarily put a straight section of pipe in place of the muffler and it actually sounds good. Although a muffler will have to go back on when we use the car in my sons wedding. JM
