Times have changed. I pay someone more to clean my house now than I paid for a Model A, in good original condition, back in the early 1970's. What will things cost in 2070?

Regrettably, I doubt that I will be around in 2070 to find out. 😢

Restoring a '59 MGA I was faced with paying $350 for an after-market grill. On my way home from work I caught the classic MG octagon faded under a coat of white paint on a run down garage wall. Turned out to have been an MG dealer about 40 years in the past. Stopped in and saw exactly my grill OEM hanging about 20' up on a wall in the original plastic wrapper. Asked the elderly owner (I am now about a decade older than he was) and he said it came with the building so he would give me the price on label if I could climb up and get it down. I got it down and it had $25 on the label. Life can be great! Of course...three months later a Lincoln managed to park with its pointy front bumper about 3 inches into my grill.

The effect of inflation is easy to calculate. It adds up over the years. Even at only 2.5% annually by 2070 parts would cost 3.11 times as much. So the $350 grill for the MGA above would cost $1,090. Assuming wages rise at the same rate, a $100,000 per year salary would be $3,110,000. The grill would probably cost much more than inflation would dictate because of increased rarity. Same for Model A parts and probably cars.

Many factors influence the price of things besides inflation.

To calculate the effect of inflation take the rate to the power of years. For instance with 2.5% over 46 years, take 1.025 to the 46 power, which equals 3.11. 5% over 46 years would equal 9.43. So you can see that the inflation rate makes quite a bit of difference over time.
