Hey Guys, Now to make my 30 coupe even more safe and fun. I sometimes have to use the emergency brake to get a good quick stop.

I need to fix my brakes. I would like to start with the front two first or should I plan on doing all 4 at the same time? Adjustment sake....

What are the normal replacement parts that I should have on hand before starting?

What kind of shoes should I get?

If I need hubs are they available and good ones?

I really don't want to skimp on the brakes. Rolling is optional. Stopping isn't.

Thanks for the input in advance and thanks for the past help. My A is a better car today than yesterday. Bill :D

Just go in Brattons catalog and you will see a picture of all the brake parts...they also have a complete brake part package. ORDER it totally and do all 4 and do them correct...NO WASHERS to fix problems (Had to throw that in about the radius ball fix...sorry) Brakes are KEY...do it slow, make sure you get new drums and hubs if you need to.. DONT Skimp. Try and get the composite shoes.
good luck!

Thanks Mark, The parts package sounds good. Composite shoes, I will check them out, sounds interesting. I must have left out I took the washer out of the radius ball as I couldn't get the nuts on far enough without totally collapsing the springs. I just took the washer out and used two new springs. I think the springs might have fixed it. Thanks for the brake input I appreciate it. Thanks Bill

It's better than not stopping at all, that's for sure, but using the emergency brakes to stop is not a good idea. In fact, they're "parking" brakes not emergency brakes. If you pull hard on them to stop when you're going at any kind of speed the carrier can rotate in the drum and cause beaucoup damage. You should repair your service brakes asap.
