Muffler Fitment Problem

I am trying to fit up a new muffler which I suspect was sourced from Midas Muffler about the time they stopped supplying mufflers for the Model A. The problem is that proper fitment will put the tailpipe higher than the rear floor. This is because the curve of the inlet pipe places the inlet flange about 1/2 - 3/4 inches too much toward the rear of the car.

What is the best way to restore the proper curve in the pipe / Do I bend it cold or get it good and hot with a propane torch?

I once had a similar issue when I replaced my sagging exhaust manifold. I stuck an old axle in the head pipe and pulled to align it with the manifold.

I have since replaced it with an Aries.

Stand on the down pipe tailpipe up and push the tailpipe to start with, crawl under your car and test fit, crawl back out and try straightening it again, and again ! My Aries muffler it perfect the first time !

The exhaust on my first Model A had the rounded front end stoved in.Someone had tried to align it by bending it cold. It wasn't long before the perforated pipe that runs the length of the muffler broke where the damage was done. Long story short, the innards of the muffler began to break apart. The rattle as I drove was incredible.
If you try bending the pipe, do it with heat or cut it almost through at the right place and weld it back together with the correct orientation. I make the cut through the weld so that I have more metal to use when welding it.
