Mouse proofing your Model A

Would mouse proofing be the same, or similar, to squirrel proofing. I do not have a mouse problem in my unheated barn, but small squirrels run in and hide if the door is open. Its kind of hard to get a car in or out with those long tailed rodents looking for a new home.

I have a 4-door Town Sedan kept in hayloft of my barn. I put dryer sheets on each door threshold & then shut door. I change and put fresh sheets in every month. I cut out pieces of aluminum "gutter guard" to fit around pedals, shifter and e-brake handle. I put dryer sheets on top of that & then put front carpet back on top. Take out rear seat & check where metal floor meets rear. Plug any little opening with a little mesh or a little steel wool. If firewall has heater hole, make sure it's closed when car is not in use. I haven't had any trouble since I got car in 2006 although I sometimes find mouse droppings on top of my car cover. I can't use camphor(moth balls) because of my wife's allergies. Hope this helps.

My wife says that she read that using Mint Tea bags works???

I think I'm staying with the cat.

These work well.

Last year our neighbour asked how we were dealing with the "rat problem"?
There's positively no sign of rats in our yard.....but we DO have a cat problem:rolleyes:

I have been using a 50/50 mixture of spearmint oil and peppermint oil saturated in speedi dry which is then bundled in panty hose and suspended around the garage. Creates a strong fumes which seems to deter the mice.

I bet the "visual" is keeping them away  :D

I use D-Con pellets too. At first I discovered the mice were cache-ing them in cubby holes and even in my old army boots. I now put just a few in tuna cans scattered around the shop, with good-old, cheap spring traps near the cans, using the same pellets as bait in the traps. I occasionally forget to check my trap-line but the odor reminds me.

Jim,
D-Con (and other maker use the same poison ingredient and usually a little cheaper) makes 1" x 1" by 3" or 6" bars that is the same poison as the pellets. The mice have to eat it right at the bar and can't hoard it. That is all I use now after finding a large cache of pellets in an old roll of carpet and who knows where else. If there are no house pets around, like in an enclosed garage or shed, you can mix in a little of the old style antifreeze with your tuna and it will kill the mice easily without messing with the traps.

Craig,
I have one of those too! He has been the best to Cindy and I. He come from a farm down the road. One day I was hauling dirt with the Bobcat and as I drove past the dumpster I see half a dozen dead mice laying there and thought what is killing them, then I see these two ears sticking out of the the hay field and before I knew it we had Olie the mouser staying in the shop. He kills and eats 2 to 3 mice a day when we let him out. He is an excellent mouser I see him with gophers and rabbits and even a rat one day.
I never had a pet attach to me before but Olie is so personable you can't help but like him.

Bill
