Mounting Tires

How about removing fairly new tires from a painted rim without messing up the paint job ??? I have a 5 year old tire that developed a slow tube leak leak. What is a good method to remove the tube without making a mess? (bought 5 tires, tubes, and rim liners all new from Coker Tire) 1 out of 5 is leaking.

Two tire irons or flat irons with electrical tape on them to prevent scratches, take them from the back.
Also you don't need to take the tire completely off to replace the tube just the one side, use some baby powder and just inflate the tube enough to make it hold shape. When putting it on I just used my hands and a rubber hammer if it got too hard.
just did 5 new ones,,, not that hard, but remember to line everything up and watch the rim that it matches the little raised rubber line around the tire (rim line?),,, if this is off your tire will bounce badly

Take a piece of heater hose and slit it length wise. Place it on the rim before you use the irons.

Frank,

Try it, that was my first atempted at mounting tires. I have since tried several different methods, including the bag. Pinching the tire beads together and shoving them down into the rim is the key. It helps when the tire is mounted on the car it prevents battleing with the rim. Note: no tools are being used that would scratch rim when being mounted. With the tire in the video the side walls were soft, but works just as well with heavier tires. Once again the key is to pinch the beads and shove them down deep into the rim.

Once again, let them sit in the sun for a while to soften the rubber. Pull the tire off from one side only, from the back. The tube can be worked out between that that side of the tire and the wheel. In other words, the tire does not need to completely be removed in order to replace the inner tube.

Yesterday I went to the Goodyear tire shop and had 5 new tubes put in my fairly new Goodyear tires (I supplied the tubes). I expressed my reluctance at having them use their tire equipment to do the job. The fellow that did the job explained to me that with all these new low profile tires that the younger people are putting on their cars, the tire shops are now getting new machines that do not even touch the rim.

He let me be in the shop while he did the work, and I will say that it was the most careful job that I have ever seen performed to dismount, and mount tires on the rims. Not a scratch! I am sure that not all shops are that careful, but he was the best!

Put a chalk make on the tire, next to the valve, so you know where to look for a nail or wire poking through, which caused the flat. Otherwise put on a glove and run your hand all around the inside of the tire to find the cause of the flat.

I also use a blowgun to remove debris from the tire.
