Mounting gas tank

I am mounting a new gas tank in the original position under the box of a 1934 PU. Two questions, does it matter if tank is mounted metal to metal? Also I don't have the fill tube that extends outside of the box. Haven't seen any after market ones. Need ideas in where to get one or something else that might work. Not worried about it being original. Thanks much.

i dont like putting metal to metal when installing fuel tanks, i use a thin nylon webbing , as far as to hookinh up the fill spout, get the measure ments of the tank fill oeneing, and how lont it needs to be then off to your favorite pick and pull yard to find what will work, check the pick ups, also call dennis carpenter, i see he advertises them for the later 49 50 fords

If you mean by "new" gas tank an aftermarket one from "Tanks" or such poly or metal they have necks that are held on with a short rubber hose. If you are using an original steel tank you can get a new screw on neck from Bob Drake. Here are some pictures comparing the poly tank with the stock tank in a '34 Ford pickup. One additional picture shows a dirty stock tank that rests on thin anti-squeak on the frame if you look close.

Thanks for the replies. Using a new metal tank from Tanks. When ordering lady told me they didn't have fill necks. I will check back there first. Is the only reason for material between tank and frame is to prevent squeaks?

You need pads & a spring setup, here are some pictures to help you. I think I bought mine from Mac's.
Gary.
