Mounting Door Handles

Hello,

I'm getting ready to re-mount my (original) outside door handles on my nice pretty freshly-painted doors. I noticed that the edge of the metal on the handle bases is sort of sharp, and it looks like it would tend to chew up the paint on the door, especially if the handle can flex and move a bit when people yank on it. Are those paper gaskets able to prevent that from happening? Am I worrying too much?

Thanks,

Doug

i purchased the rubber gasket that goes between the base and the door. i also did the same thing on the headlight bar to fenders and the tail light. the vendors have them. protects the paint well

For my door handles, I cut some out of black paper and soaked them in oil before installing them. They are about 1/32" larger than the door handle escutcheon. The headlight bar, hood hooks, tailight stands, and spare tire bracket are all metal to metal.

Doug, I would use the gaskets but if the screws are properly tightened the trim rings shouldn't move once installed. The only thing that moves is the handle and shaft.
