Mounting a/c on an 8BA

Chuck, if you don't mind, can you let us know what you decide on? I doubt I'll do air in my 40 but it does sound so nice to have. Thx, Dan

I am very pleased and so are two of my friends with our air conditioner/alternator bracket that we purchased from Parr Automotive in Oklahoma City, OK. Ph 1 800 654 6779. The part No is "HOT-AC53".
If you want further information on other parts we used for the installation, let me know.
Regards,
Charles

Harry Gobel in Miami,Fl has a unit in his. He's listed in the community section on here i think. ken ct.

Dan,
I'm still putting the engine together so it will be a while. I didn't want to buy the wrong water pumps. As for the overheating I am going with a new copper radiator and electric fan. The fan comes on with the a/c compressor so it gets a head start on cooling. Oh yea this flattie is bored .125, and will have a C4 behind it, I'm a glutton for punishment, Chuck.

Adding an air conditioning system doesn't tax the engine cooling system all that much. The flat motors have always had a tendency to get warmer when the car is setting still. I think the electrical charging system is taxed more. As long as the set up includes a 12-volt alternator with a fair amount of power output capacity, an A/C system is viable. I still haven't seen but one set up that didn't look cluttered on top of the motor and that one mounted the pump underneath the driver's side water pump & used a dual sheave pulley on that pump to drive it.

I used the generator bracket for my compressor & fabbed up a small alternator mount that bolts to my left side water pump.

And I didn't need the peterbilt radiator:)

That sounds like one of the better ideas (even if Ford didn't design it). It would be great if you could find a way to post a picture of that alternator mount. I'm sure many others as well as myself are looking for viable alternatives to the A/C alteration techniques. Most that I've seen require an electric fan and some folks don't want to go quite that far.

Chuck,
The pics show the mount on an 8BA in my '35. I was a guinea pig-after they sent me the steel bracket, they asked me to try a prototype aluminum. After some home mods, I sent the results back and that's what they're selling. I still have the steel bracket for AC and an alternator on an 8BA, which is available if you're interested. We can discuss at duncan4755@msn.com if you're interested. The compressor, hoses fittings, etc. came from vintage Air.
Good luck!

Here are a couple more AC setups on 8BA engines. The flossy one is March Performance and the other one is Hot Rod and Custom Supply in Michigan.

The slickest AC compressor installation I have seen mounted it off the passenger side head under the distributor. Mounting bracket went to cylinder head and exhaust manifold bolts. The pulley lined up with the stock fan pulley, and belt tension was adjusted by adjusting the fan. No new pulleys needed, and the top of the engine didn't get cluttered.
