motor mount install

I have a 1941 Ford with a "G" series six. I have new motor mounts and want to jack up the engine to replace them. I think I only need to jack
enough to free them, but am concerned about where best to jack the engine. It looks like the only contact will be with the oil pan and need to know how best to go about this. I want to use the floor jack and will put a piece of wood between the jack and oil pan. Any suggestions?
Thanks John

That will suffice or lift with a cherry picker to some head studs. the jack is easier. use wood. ken ct.

Thanks Ken, I plan on using a piece of wood between the jack and oil pan.
I will raise the engine only enough to free the mount and get the new one in place.
I hope you came out ok in the storm we were lucky here.

Thanks
John

On our V8's I use a floor jack with a block of wood and a foam rubber pad on it to cushion the oil pan.

Put the wood towards the front of the oil pan where you have the most strength for lifting the engine. I don't know about the "G" series six but when I jack up a V8 to replace front motor mount pads, I also loosen the trans. mount bolts that fasten the rear mount to the frame. This will allow the front of the engine to come up some without breaking or bending things.

Excellent idea.
