Moths eating my Mohair

I read that moths don't like the plant lavender so I tried that and they must of thought I was providing ambiance for their Mohair meal. Any suggestions besides Moth Balls?

Hi Tim,

a) Fly-swatters?
b) Keep Model A windows rolled up?
c) Park Model A in total darkness?; also,

d) Vintage Cure Before Moth Ball Use: Ever hear of a cedar closet or cedar chest.
e) Research internet for cedar to combat moths.
f} Buy an aromatic cedar plank, (maybe Ebay), hand plane to make shavings, place in (2) separate Zip-Lock bags, punch a dozen holes in each & change out once a year.
g) If all of the above fails, moth balls work well for moths, mice & rats.

As I recall from science and what I have read, it's not the moths that are eating the cloth it's the larvae. You could spray the inside with a natural bug spray that will kill the eggs and larvae and repel the adults from laying more eggs. Something that is safe for cloth.

Hi Tim,the pet stores have cedar shavings for pet hamsters. Put some in old panty hose and hang them. also, I found out after a hatch of flies in my basement, that fly-paper hanging strips catches them. As Red'T stated, this gets the flyers, but not the larve that damage the cloth. Good luck

I hate the little bastards. They ate half my seats, doors, and quarter panels in my Tudor a few years ago. I bought a little pheromone tent from a local natural foods store. The pheromone attracts the moths to the tent, where there is a sticky surface like flypaper. They stick, they die. I caught seven or eight of them this spring. I also keep mothballs in the car; I hate the smell but it's worth it for the extra protection.

Aromatic cedar works, but I think it's special and different than just cedar shavings.

But Mark is right: by the time you see the moths, it's likely they have sprung from larvae and already done their damage. But then again, you might catch them before they lay their eggs.
