More '29 Sport Coupe help needed

Can anyone post a clear close-up picture of where the Belt Rail Molding terminates at the front, does it wrap into the door jam?

I have the moulding for the one I'm working on and the thin piece at the front is folded over on one end and broken off the other and I can't seem to find a pic of one with the door open.

Saw a '29 on the show field at Macungie today but he had the same situation and just cut the remaining tab off, I would prefer to add one on.

There was a long discussion about a year or so ago on the old Fordbarn with a number of pictures. The consensus was that the ends are bent over 90 degrees and gently tapped into the narrow space between the two pieces of metal at the outside of the latch pocket. I also saw a fine points 28 or 29 sports coupe at Merrillville last year that had the ends installed the same way. I think I might have some pictures I saved if you want to see them. The beltrail ends do not wrap around and into the latch packet. The reason given was the beltrail ends would be worn off fairly quickly with the door striker rubbing on it all the time.

I think the 5th book in the Model A Restorer series has a bunch of pictures of the belt rail moulding or at least of Sport Coupes in general. There was a fellow making these but the last time I contacted him he wouldn't make me one due to a heavy back log. A friend of mine installed one that was made as a replacement but I'm not sure who made it. It didn't follow the curvature of the body very well. I certainly would have tried to adjust it but it wasn't my call. If anyone out there knows of anyone that is still making these, please post some contact info. Not too many originals survive that I've seen. It was such thin metal that only barn or garage stored cars would survive corrosive effects of time.

I will see if I can post some pictures of what you are asking about. I posted pictures on the old Ford Barn as WRNdln states above. If no pictures email me at dickger-31@wi.rr.com and I can send them to you. No luck posting pictures.

Carb Guy,
I have two more pictures I saved from the old Fordbarn discussion we had a while back. I can post them, but they don't show much more information than the one I already posted. Let me know if you think they would be helpful. I can't remember your name from when we were discussing the beltrail ends. The pictures you posted were quite helpful to me. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks guys for all the replies, and a special thank you to wrndln, that pic is exactly what I needed.

Volume 5 of How to Restore Your Model A has great info on the interior of the Sport Coupes but very little on the exterior.

Hello Rusty: I remember the belt rail trim discussion, and enjoyed helping out, the picture you posted is a good one. thanks. Dick Hansen

Dick,
Posting pictures on Fordbarn is pretty straightforward. If you want a step by step set of instructions, (there aren't that many steps) I can send one to you. It is really helpful to have pictures of what is being discussed. I use Photobucket like I did on the old Fordbarn. Let me know if you would like instructions on how to post pictures.

Thanks again for the original pictures you provided of the beltrail end.
Rusty
