modern tires for early wires

Anybody know max width of newer ply tire that will work on a 16" Ford wire? Maybe it's tire mfgr dependent? I'm looking at 16x6.5 but think that might be pushing it by half an inch, maybe a little more.

Hi, I have Goodyear Eagle LS 205 70 16's on my original 35 wire wheels. They are very close to the original height. Running them tubeless no problems. Paul

Thanks Paul. My gut tells me they will work but I get dizzy every time I start to decipher tire sidewall data ! Joel

I think the Goodyear literature states 6" rim width to get best wear pattern across the tread width with those tires. I'm thinking of running those tires also but may widen some Kelseys by an inch.

I guess I am not too worried about getting the most wear out of these, I think they will out last me by quite a few years. They look like the tread lays about right across the tire, but could be better with a little wider rim. I will try to get a picture posted later this evening. Paul
