The topic of fastener torque and preload comes up here from time to time. I saw this article in a trade magazine and thought it might be of interest to many Barners. It's quite technical, but there is a lot of good information in amongst the formulae.

Joe, Thanks for the link. Good read! Takes me back to when F.E.A. was in its infancy. Complex physical testing of the past is now so easily modeled in simulation IF you have an engineer astute enough to properly define the parameters of the problem.
