Model T newbie... have some basic questions

Hello all!

I'm one of those whacky HAMB guys that finally made it over here when Ryan took over. At around the same time, I also bartered/bought a '27 T 5 window coupe.

Instead of asking a million questions, I'll ask this one. Does anyone have fairly detailed shots of a correctly restored '26-'27 T coupe? Heck any '26-'27 for that matter. Looking at my pics below, you'll see that I'm missing just a couple parts. I need to stare at a correct T for a while to start making a list of what I need. Amazingly, googling "1927 Model T Ford" gets me some pics, but nothing great, and definitely nothing detailed like an interior shot.

Luckily my buddy who was going to chop the top on the T body decided to continue hot rodding his '30 AV8 and sell the body (with clear title!) and everything else he had to me. The original deal was I would just get the chassis and would have to build a body for it...

I'll get pics of the body posted soon, but they're in a weird format.

Here's the chassis. If anyone sees anything interesting or unusual on my chassis, feel free to speak up. I still don't know a lot about what I'm looking at. I've only been around the car for a total of 45 minutes (which will change this weekend). :)

Good start there, some things are missing, but you have a lot of that chassis together. Noted the generator is gone, the frame to firewall brackets mostly gone, didn't see front cross member to fender braces on the front frame horn. The steering column is correct for the Improved Ford.

Check the frame rail on the passenger side, on top, just in front of the front running board bracket, there should be a stamped serial number that should match the engine. Ford began stamping the frames on the Improved Car late Dec 1925. The Improved car was introduced in Aug '25.

The floorboards were wood C. J. with metal trunk floor and under seat pan was metal in 26-7. Be patient, it will all come together. Just don`t look for it to happen next week. Monte

You just have to remember the final goal as you go along. My T-Touring took over 10 years before I was able to drive it. Mostly because it was always on the back burner. It is the one car my entire family remembers as having the most fun in, the tours in northern Vermont were fantastic. If you have back roads its a great car to really enjoy them.

You are starting with about as much of a car as I had and now it's great. Took some time but like ford 46 says it's the one everyone will remember. I love giving people rides in the car they'll talk about for years how they got to ride in a T and how neat it was. It is a truly unforgettable experience to ahve a nad drive a T. No other car can compare.

Wow, thanks a lot for all the info guys. You've answered some big questions I had. Those are some beautiful Ts you showed me.

Here's the latest pics of my car. What is pictured is all I have for it. Obviously it's going to need new quarters and a cowl to start off with, just to complete what I have. Unfortunately most of the sub structure in the floor was cut out too. I'm going to need to get another T to get the sub structure and weld it into mine. I'm hoping to find a T with a good substructure and a crappy body. I don't want to cut up another good T! Coincidentally, this car is sitting with a 3" channel. I kind of like it but I will probably return it to stock. The rat fink is kind of funny too, with that 2x6 sitting under the car. No, I won't be doing that...

At the moment I'm considering doing this car in mid 30's gowjob fashion. I really like those earliest of early hot rods, but I don't want a modified body or anything that can't be put back to stock in a weekend. If this car was a "survivor" or a clean car, I would just do it stock. But at this point, I've really got nothing to lose.

As you can see the firewall was cut out for a big block V8, and the rear quarters cut out for slicks. My friend did NOT do the cutting. He got it that way. Ugh... now to reverse what was done. None of the "clippings" came with the car either. Too bad... for me.

I'm a fairly young guy (25) and am new to Ts. I hope you guys are ready for some dumb questions. :)

Hey, Just thought I'd jump in and say that I have a ****** T Sedan.
The subframe seems to be the best part of the car, and it has a bent up firewall.

I got it this winter on a whim and realized I don't need it.
Let me know if your interested. I'm not even sure if the Sedan subframe will work on a Coupe, Maybe some of the diehard 'Barners will know.

You know, this might be a long shot but did you try calling the folks over at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn MI? Used to be they had a support section that would field questions like yours, and provide info if they had it - free.

I don't know if that's the case anymore. Many years ago a friend of mine had an old 2N tractor and needed some stuff on it. He called, they responded with technical info and photos. It might be different nowadays but maybe worth a call or e-mail to them. I know they have a bunch of T's over there (duh!), last time there I saw several zipping around the village.

Here's the link: http://www.thehenryford.org/ Their phone # is listed at bottom of the homepage.

CJ., Sometimes a fairly good body will show up, Don`t get in a hurry. Also do some price shopping. There will be a fall swapmeet at Chickasha, Ok. and it`s possible that something will be there. Also Model T Haven out of Inola Ks. has acres of cars and parts. Don`t be afraid to haggle!!! Model T Monte

tmodelman, My brother has a (what he believes is) '26 T pickup with a twp speed axe. He's looking for the serial number so he can register it. It's not where you described it above. Is there another place it might be or maybe trucks didn't have serial numbers? where is the engine number? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tony

Tony, if his doesn't have the number stamped in the frame rail, he will have to use the engine number like 09-25. It is right above the water outlet on the side of the motor.
