Model B Transmission opetions

Starting a 32 Model B project. What are my transmission options? Because of the one year only fly wheel housing, it seems my basic option is a model B transmission. I've been reading you can upgrade the B transmission with later gears. Are there any other options for a transmission?
Thanks

If running a B engine in an A then A box can be made to fit , You can also run the V8 box behind a B block with a cling adapter, or run the B box with 39 gears , If its a 32 ford ( B) then try the other forum

What is your "Model B project"? Without more info I would say later gears in the Model B case. You probably already know but don't try to run a Model A flywheel with a Model B box unless you have cut it down.

Hey Johnny,
It might be helpful to YOU, to get help from others, to know your approximate location :) .
For instance, I have a '39 transmission behind a '32 B engine in a '30 roadster. Like Charlie says...'model B project' can mean different things to different people, who might like to help you. So, maybe a little more info on your project, will help us to help you. For your information also, there are MANY members here who use many combinations of transmission 'options' behind A/B engines. If you live near by, I could/would be glad to help/show you what can be done for such options. Jim Brierleys' offer to send you written information is an opportunity that you should not pass up !

I asked a similar question recently. The basic decision I got was unless you have bad gears in your B transmission , it is not worth the hassle to upgrade. If you run a cut down oil pan I believe you can run an AA belhousing and a t-5 transmission. of course that is a HAMB answer, not a Fordbarn answer.

1939 Gears and syncro collar with a 1939 Shift tower. They will work in your 1932
box. Call Mac Van Pelt and buy everything from him. He will give you lots of good
information and advise.

Re: Model B Transmission options

Hello and thank you all for the helpful info. Forgive me for maybe posting in the wrong place as I'm just getting started with my project. I just didn't know where to ask. I thought the A site would be better suited as I'm building a 4 banger but maybe the V8 site would be better. And maybe the hot rod site might also be better because I'm building a special. My best friend has an A special and he's my influence to build one myself. I stumbled upon a B motor and found a B ****** to go with it close by. Relying a lot on the friends network so have been offered a number of misc parts for the project. So I guess I'm building a 32 B roadster special.

My friend has upgraded his A special a number of times, and adding a T5 transmission being the best improvement. He used the AA bell housing to fit the T5. Another friend has a AA housing he's willing to give me. But it seems without some modification to the oil pan, the AA bell housing will not fit. As I haven't actually driven the car with the B ******, maybe I should wait to see how I like it as it supposed to be better than the A ******. I've driven a non synchromesh ****** for years in a 26 Packard so am used to it but would like to upgrade as best I can.

I'm located in upstate NY, Schenectady to be exact, about 3 hours north of NYC.

I must admit that I am still confused about what you are building. Is a "special" a speedster, a huckster or a hot rod? Can you post a picture of your friends car?

It is straight forward and relatively easy to remove the back of a Model B pan but I would like to suggest you advertise that you want to swap a stock pan for a modified pan before you start cutting. I left a "strap" of metal on my pan to avoid the risk of leaks from removing the spot welds.

Re: Model B Transmission options

Again, being new and not familiar of what to call my project. I think it's going to be a speedster. I hope to build an aluminum boat tailed body. Right now, I'm collecting parts. Have 21" wheels, a 29 radiator, the B motor and transmission, etc. Thank you for the picture, what kind of bell housing did you use on your motor?
Thanks

Johnny,

If you are directing the question to me and post #14 I am running a standard Model A flywheel housing and transmission. It bolts together with no modification but I have heard that I will not be able to remove the rear main to adjust the shims without a lot off work. At my age I think the bearings will probably outlast me.
