Model B trans/Model a motor?

I have an A motor I just bought for my roadster and I have an extra trans from my model B and they don't seem to have the same bolt pattern. I thought they bolted up? Am I wrong?

you would have to weld the back lower flywheel section of a B pan on the A pan, and install the B flywheel housing to the A block for it to work.

You can fit a B trans onto a A flywheel housing with a adaptor plate between the two.
I have just fitted a B trans to my 30 with V8 gears inside , you will also have to make a pedal mount bracket & park brake bracket , also if running a stock wishbone set up there will have to be a mount welded to the bellhousing for the ball pivot .
The only problem that I had was with the starter motor I had to use a early style 1/2" shaft without the bendex spring as it was hitting on eather the plate or the bellhousing ( not sure at this stage ) but will find out later on as I wanted to get it running before going back to work.

Any chance you are thinking of a 1932 V8 transmission? There doesn't seem to be room for an adapter plate with the B trans and I have never seen or heard of anything like that being done. Of course with enough work you can do anything. An adapter is available to install the V8 trans to the Model A.

I think windy-au is leading you astray? The B trans, which is different than the V8, requires a B bell housing. The B housing is similar to just the top half (if you cut it at the pan rail) of the A, but the bolt pattern is different. The B pan had the lower half of the 'bell housing' spot welded to it. If you'd like me to send you an article I did on putting a B into an A, e-mail me at jimb4e4@gmail.com and I will forward it to you.

Hi Guys , trust me I'am not leading you astray , the trans is a 4 cyl model B . The plate I made was 1/2" mild steel machined down to 5/16" for the sprigot that fits into the model A flywheel housing , then drilled the bolt holes ( I had to countersink the holes from the starter motor to the frame mount on the top side ) Then using a empty housing I made a shaft to center the gearbox housing & drilled & taped the bolt holes . after this was done the center of the plate was cut out in the mill to prevent worping .
If you want I can remove the floor & take some pics of the set up as I still need to find out about the starter 7 a small problem with the shifter on second gear .
