Model A's and Bluegrass Music

I know there are more than a few Model A'ers on Fordbarn who enjoy Bluegrass music . I would have accomplished much more on my restoration if I hadn't spent so much time playing bluegrass banjo for over 30 years now.:D

Tonight I ran across this article about Little Roy Lewis and a photo of him with his Model A and banjo. Bluegrass folks will be familiar with the music of the Lewis Family.

Told my wife when I got the Sport Coupe down I was going to learn how to play the banjo. Guess what I got for Christmas? Yup. Still do not how to play it. That was 1982. Kept getting more Model A's.

Well when I built my car barn I had two items first on the "Must Have List" First was 5 tons of AC (hot as hell in Texas) and second was a full sound system and 50 year collection of Bluegrass albums. As to little Roy we use to have the Lewis family visit and play music several times a year back in the 70's.Yep I know many of the old preformers and many who have passed on but I have there music so there always close by.Did some production at Studio 19 in Nashville with Country Gazette a few times and other noted musicans so to answer your question yep cars and blue grass go together. Also many years a Stelling dealer and got a couple of old Banjers but old mechanical fingers dont play any more but love the music.

I've played in several bands over the years. I started out playing a banjo my grandfather bought me back in Kentucky. I now mainly play guitar and sing. Going to a jam tonight at a friend's house.

My Dad knows Little Roy. Dad told me who restored Little Roy's Model A for him but I can't recall who it was. I'll ask my Dad this weekend.

I picked with some great pickers last night until Midnight. It was the first good jam I been to in 2-1/2 months. I've been spending more time with my Model A lately. Having a job gets in the way of my two hobbies.:D

Gary Gregory, have you ever gone to Snowhill TN for the jam there? I've been wanting to go for some time.

Tim,
No I havn't been to Snowhill yet but a few friends do go sometimes. Maybe we can meet up sometime down there and talk Model A's & Bluegrass !

Interesting thread...

Dad was a big Flatt & Scruggs fan, so that was my intro to Bluegrass...

Lately I've had a strong urge to get one and learn to play... in addition to Earl Scruggs, my other "banjo heroes" ( in the "old-timey / claw-hammer / frailing school ) are: Uncle Dave Macon ( more for his entire performance package than just his banjo skills ), Grandpa Jones, and Stringbean.

And then there's Bela Fleck, who just simply must be from a different ( but awesome) planet... ;)
