Model AA trans question

I have a 29 AA that I'm just getting back to working on. It has a 3 speed trans with the high and low selector. When I let the clutch out, the high/low section is loose and clunks. Is there something that could be broken or missing that connects it to the back of the trans? I'm new to the site so forgive me if I ask stupid questions. Any help is appreciated.

3rd post! Wecome to the barn! I can't help you with you question, I thought all AA had 4sd transmissions :-( I am sure someone will chime in and educate me :-) What kind of AA do you have? Good luck with your project!

the dual high is held in by the 6 bolts around the clamshell to trans, u joint on front and rear, and the rear it slides in a large splined hole in a bracket that is bolted to the crossmember and the 6 bolts that tie the clamshels together.

make sure the brake cross shaft isnt hitting the case - it comes close, going to have to crawl under there and really feel around, most likely loose bolts or somethings hitting the case

I just got this moved to my work spot and took a look underneath. It has a Muncie dual high transfer case. It doesn't look like the ones in the picture. Any ideas? Everything seems tight but there is some play in the transfer case. I haven't opened it up but the gears sound good and feel good.

AA trucks from the beginning of production to late 1929 had regular car 3 speed transmissions, some of the trucks with the 3 speed also had dual high transmissions behind the 3 speeds. Like the unit pictured above. From late 1929 to end of production all AA trucks had 4 speeds.

JB _ you may have a bad U joint between the Muncie and the rear axle.
