Model aa 1928 transmission issues

Try to make this short I have a 1928 to 30 mixed model aa with 4 speed ******. It’s sat for 60 years and I put it together. The motor ran then clunk and stopped locked up. I backed the motor up and it started again.

Now I have no forward gears. I do not know where to start? Pull the tower off and that looks good.

I’m new to this post thing so I’m not sure if I’m the right area?

You're in the right area. The AA is close enough to the A and many here deal with both.

My only thought might be the classic "smile crack" which can form on the 4 speed transmission case.

Our mutual friend Vince Falter discusses this on his site at https://www.fordgarage.com/pages/aatranscracks.htm.

I have two four speed trannies now kicking around that I picked up for small money. Getting them home I started looking closer at what I had - one has the crack and one does not. I'm glad I bought both as the thought of "maybe I should buy both in case of problems" did come to mind.

Of two previous AA trucks I have dealt with one had the crack and one did not. One of these was in a barn and the roof above failed along with the fabric roof of the 82A cab AND the owner had the ****** top off years before for unknown reason. The ****** filled with rainwater which froze over many seasons and cracked the case.

So of four 4 speed trannies, half have shown the defect.

It may be yours too. See Vince's pix.

I just clicked on it - and it still comes up for me.

I know Vince let the site "go down" for a while, but it could still be seen on Archive.

I was surprised it came up for me as easily as it did. Two months ago it would have been a different answer.

If you Google (search) for the search term "Fordgarage" alone, the first link that shows up is the www.fordgarage.com site. So I would guess it is "there."
