does any one know what would be wrong with my model a tudor...
after putting new cast iron drums and hubs and bearings and all new brake parts, i have now developed an awful noise coming from the drive line.
i have taken the drums in the rear and regreased the bearings, still the problem exists..and it's getting worse...any ideas what could be wrong?
if you push the clutch in..it goes away. (there's vibration in the gear shift handle). while driving, when you let off the gas.. the noise goes away,
when you step on the gas, the noise is back.
thanks.

You didn't do ANYTHING else to the car?

Obviously if it has to do with the hubs, drums, or brakes, it has to be from the rear. Jack up the rear and turn each wheel and see if you can produce any sounds. Do either of the rear wheels/drums wobble? If so it would indicate an axle key is installed incorrectly and the hub is not seated on the axle taper. Are the axle nuts well tightened? The only other thing I can think of is having an emergency brake band installed inside out which will **** the open ends of the band outward and cause it to contact the inside face of the drum.

If only brakes and drums were touched during this then I like Marco's axle key theory. Pull the hubs and check to make sure the key is installed properly. Also if you can post a picture of the rears that would help. Improperly installed e-brake is certainly an option.

I,too think that it is the U-joint.Put the car in gear, jack up a rear wheel & turn wheel back & forth & check for extra slop or noise in U- joint area.It may just be a coincidence that the noise showed up after changing drums etc. Also if wheel studs were installed by the quick methed of welding them in place,The welds will hit the park brake parts & be noisy, but should be noisy all the time.

I had same noise and went away when u pushed in the clutch.... Turned out to be a bearing in the transmission
