Model A Water Pump Availability

Bratton's had a bunch at the MARC meet flea market this week. I didn't look closely, but they all looked to be rebuilt.

I decided to just rebuild, unfortunately the snout on my pump is cracked so I bought a core on eBay and hopefully it is good enough to rebuild. I will get the crack brazed later and rebuild for a spare. I got the rebuild kit from Snyder's.

I sent that ebayer a question.

"How is it possible that this went from $174.95 (from your selling history) to $1,294.95?"

Here is the answer I received.

"Hello, the pricing change is because we have limited supply. We have a couple left at this price, but once we have a chance to finish what we are working on and add to our stock, then the price will change back to normal. Thank you

Ok now Piranios DOES have the water pumps in stock. I just ordered one and they are sending it out tomorrow be at my door in 3 days! $30 shipping!!! Cars apart so it is what it is
They are really getting hard to find. Thanks fella’s

Sorry if this gets posted twice but just so everyone knows I looked high and low and yes Piranois does have the water pumps in stock. Only place that has the pre assembled pumps in stock. Others like Brattons have the kits that you can assemble yourself.

Thank you to everyone for your advice. Due to the non-availability of waterpumps I went ahead and bought a rebuild kit and a can of engine paint from Snyders. I must admit that it was fairly straightforward and the instructions supplied were easy to follow. I feel better about myself for doing the work instead of buying an assembly. Something to be said for pride of workmanship.

Do like they did in the Great (First) Depression. Bacon rind wrapped around the shaft and pinned by the gland.

Be glad you're not doing a crankshaft rebuild like "Grapes of Wrath."
