Model A Transmissions

1929 Driver

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to Model A's. I need a rebuildable transmission for my 1929 CC Pickup and I don't know if the trransmission has to be a 1929. I'm positive there are members who are absolute experts on transmissions for the four years, differences from year to year, etc.

Unless I'm covering old ground, I thought it would be uyseful for members like me to be brought up to speed on what to look for, etc.

Thanks from me and 'Emma'

There were a few evolutionary changes made to the transmission during production. In most cases they will fit all four years. However the few changes that were made were designed to ruin your day if you are not aware of them.

Go to www.ocmafc.com. On the left menu scroll to "tech articles" and click on it. It will bring up a new menu. At the top is my name, click on it and it will bring up a menu of a number of technical articles. There are several on the subject of the transmission. You are welcome to download any and all. This might be of help to you.

You can rebuild one yourself. It's not overly difficult and there's lots of info and videos on rebuilding them.

Any 29-31 trans will be interchangeable. The 29 shift tower will have the park brake lever in front of shift lever, the 30-31 on the side. The 28 has a multi-disc clutch on input shaft.Around mid 29,the rear brg retainer was changed from having unequal bolt spacing for the U-joint hsg caps to one having equal spacing for the caps.It dont matter which you use,as long as they are a matched set.Get a copy of the Service Bulletins & it will show changes made in production for everything.
