Model A torque tube separation from trans.

Fellers, One more question! Can someone give me a quick tutorial in removing the engine and trans together? I have removed the two halves of the front U joint cover. Does it slide apart now? Haven't lifted the engine yet and don't want to break something. Thanks

Don't forget to remove the radius rods from the bottom of the transmission! Don't ask me how I know this.

Usually at this point you have to remove the rear axle slightly. Either by using the dreaded spring spreader on the spring/perch interface or (easier) by jacking the frame from the spring clamps/frame-member.

This isn't as hard as it seems.

I've tried to pull the motor forward in an "up and out" movement, and leave the rear axle alone, but it doesn't work so well. This better for removing the motor from the bellhousing.

One person's experience.

I have pulled engine and trans together without messing with the rear end. Before I went to all that trouble, I'd pull the engine alone, then pull the trans, and leave the rear end untouched.

I agree with Ray. Also it's best to remove the throttle linkage so it doesn't hit the firewall. Don't loose the shims under the flywheel cover ears.

Just went thru the process yesterday. The job was to pull the engine, trans and Torque Tube- to install one of the F150 trannys and do some repair work on the engine while it was out. I find it easier to pull the engine. Then disconnect the BellHouseing - 4 bolts - get it out of the way . Then remove the top and bottom Shell of the U Joint cover. Then the Transmission and the U Joint will slide off the Drive Shaft. The U Joint is connected to the Transmission by one 3/8" bolt in the Transmission Output Shaft.
