Does a Model A Title show the A or AA that is in front of the Vin.#? Mine does and one I was going to buy does not. Which one is correct?

The one that is correct is the one that legally belongs to or was issued to the vehicle you have. Why don't you go through the proper channels and obtain a new title in your state? The practice of "buying" titles and fraudulently presenting them as belonging to the vehicle you have has been the cause of much grief for antique and classic car owners in many states.

My NJ Title and the PA title before it both have the A. Depends on the state but if yours has the A then I would imagine the state is going to be looking for it on the one without.

I couldn't sleep nights if I "bought" a title and lied (perjury) to get the car registered. But maybe that is just me.

I don't see where he is asking about buying a title, he just wants to know if the one he is looking to buy should have an A or AA before the number on the title . Did I read it wrong?

Just make sure the number with or without the letter on the title matches the frame number and letter or not exactly as the state inspector will check the frame number against the title. Motor number is not relevant per AZ only the frame number. AZ is a real pain in the rear on registering A's. Have to jack up body for inspector to see the frame number if there is one or will have to get bonded title with AZ's inflated value as basis for title cost. Had a clear title from MN, but still had to get bonded title since could not read the frame number. AZ inspector said as far as he was concerned was a stolen car no matter if had a title from another state or not and would run the number against stolen cars if had a frame number. MN also had a Pioneer Plate which only costs $28.00 once and register forever. MN felt you had paid enough in tags for the age of the vehicle.

Yes I was looking at a car to purchase and the title that I didn't think jived because the (A) was not on the title but was on the frame. My 29 CCPU has the (A) on the frame and motor and title. Sorry for the confusion.

A friend recently bought an A in Idaho and when I looked at the title I noticed that there was no "A" in the serial number. That's the only Idaho Model A title I've ever looked at so I don't know if it's common practice in Idaho. I suspect it could happen in any state because some clerk has to type it up and it could easily be overlooked.

That was really up to the person at the DMV office at the time the title was issued. I have seen some with and some without the A. Rod

If the car you are thinking of purchasing has an AZ title you won't have a problem transferring the title since they won't even look at the car but you MAY when it comes time to sell it.

Don't know how things are going in Mohave Co. but here in Pima I am told that the DMV is so understaffed or overworked depending on who you ask that they are not insisting on looking at frame #s but even that may vary depending on which office you go to. If there is a Model A restortion shop near you ask the feller there what he does about titling/transferring; he may know someone helpful. Good luck.

I just looked at the four Texas titles I have for four different Model A's. Two have the A in front of the number and two do not have the A in front. Some clerk in the courthouse typed the numbers on to the titles.
