Model A spark plugs

Anyone run Champion C-4 plugs? Here in Canada, back in the day (40s 50s) that's all that was run in Model As. I have 2 NOS C-4s, that I've had forever, would like to find 2 more.

I run champion W-18 and have for years, perform well in all the stop and go here ,get them at NAPA, about $8 each.....Happy New year to all

Don't overlook the carb. Too rich will soot up the plugs. Closing the gas/air valve must make the engine run too lean and opening it like two turns should change to a definite too rich condition. If turning the GAV doesn't make any difference, time for a carb overhaul.

Champion 3x not available at O'Rielly, Advance, or Auto Zone. Found a NAPA store that could get them special. Ordered on Monday and just picked them up today (Wednesday). They had to get a box of 10, but I only took four. Their part number is #429. I take it the gap is .035.

Opened up the new plugs and they were all preset with instructions from Champion that they are and should be .033. Went out for a spin they made a difference over the Motorcraft plugs that were in the car.

Here are some pictures I did several years ago for a seminar at our Regional Meet concerning heat ranges of spark plugs. Doesn't offset the heat range test on the aforementioned post.

The heat range is determined by the ability of the spark plug to transfer heat generated in the combustion process to the head. The shorter the plug electrode, the colder it will be. One picture shows a cutaway of a W16Y, W18 and a TT10 (same as a 3076). As can be seen, the W18 is the hotter plug with the TT10 almost as hot and the W16Y the coldest of the 3. Another picture shows a C4 and a new 3X. The W18 and 3X are close. The third picture shows 2 original 3X's along with the reproduction. One 3X appears to be hotter than the other. Interesting.

Oh yes, I destroyed 2 power hack saw blades cutting those apart.
