Model A Sold Mecum Auto Action

The one thing that stood out to me about this car is that it has an original (or original-type) coil and it hasn't been converted to a rumble seat. How many coupes do you guys think still have the original trunk?

By the engine no. this is an early Jan '31 - The first one in Jan. was 4237501 and this one is 4238989

My coupe has a trunk.

Not sure what the old car rankings are relative to value. However, I’ve seen high point (480+ points) blue ribbon cars struggle to sell for less than this car in recent years. Restoration costs are significantly higher than the sales price of this car or others

Marco’s roadster is now a 30 year old restoration. It was ground breaking at its time, but several cars have scored higher since his did. Marco’s roadster is several JS revisions behind too. Restorations age, even if they aren’t driven.

This coupe is nice, but it’s hard to compare it to a car restored 30-40 years ago

Good points....

Just saw this thread and agree with Brent. This is a fine point Henry car and if you want a nice cut above car you pay more for it . You couldn’t restore it to that degree for rhqt money. There are few out there in this category… Will it need a little road sorting out, maybe a bit but it probably won’t be much. Cars like this are done thoroughly. I’d rather give more for an exceptional car than the normal 15-16k average car that needs work.

1930 Ford Model A Deluxe Coupe Sold at Mecum Auto Auction

That $44k plus the bidder's fee, that's rediculous The pinstripe on the tank to me looks wrong. It should be moved a little inwards.

And why on earth would you do what looks like a beautiful restoration and leave the engine bay looking like a pig pen?

Well, ....while the pinstripe on the tank may look wrong to you or me, -evidently it looked right to the Buyer based on the hammer price. :D

And to your point about the engine compartment, -again this "pig pen" must not have been an issue to the Buyer. Another way to look at it, maybe if the engine compartment had been detailed, it might have brought more than $50k. ;)

I have said this over & over but it bears repeating, just because some here feel like Model-As selling for more than $40,000 is ridiculous, there are other hobbyists who definitely don't feel that way and are willing to pay that or more. And from my experiences, most top quality Model-A sales never really get advertised. If you own a really nice Model-A, there is always someone wanting to buy it.

and to your point Brent

One may see a #2 car as a 3 and just like coins, grading is subjective.
Thus there can be large disparage on pricing.
