Model A Shock Absorbers

The 1931 Model A SW 4 D T/S came to me with no history. I only know where it came from. While I was disassembling the vehicle, I learned two areas of odd notice. One, there was a mixture of 1931 and 1932 parts, and two, there were many missing parts. Apparently, this vehicle was scavenged for parts to use on another vehicle.

One item that is missing are the four shock absorbers. I have no shocks to rehabilitate.

Therefore, I will need to purchase "new' shocks. Should I purchase the "new" modern shock absorbers, or purchase replacement "old style" shock absorbers.

My plan going forth is to restore the vehicle to touring status, looking as perfect as I can make it. I do not intend to have the vehicle judged.

Thoughts?

I think a set of Stipe shocks is a good investment if a set can be found.

If not, then I think buying a basket full of old originals and finding 4 that can be rebuilt is the way to go.

I hear there are some from South America [?] that may be of good quality, I don't know for sure.

The new ones that are 'oilless' are junk.

Are you saying to get the old style not the modern shocks?

If you are referring to 'tube shocks' as modern, then yes, Personally I'd recommend staying away from them. I know they'll be a lot of rebuttal, but, thats my stance and I'm sticking to it. :D

I prefer the original style shocks.

Thanks!!!! Since I do not have any to start with, I appreciate you help and advise on what shocks to get.

Thank you!!!!!!!!

OK Guys - I am now going to be getting replacement "old" shocks.

Second information request.

Now, do I want Dogbone Shock Link or Tubular Shock Link?

I have the modern tube type (ones sold by Ken Davis) on a 30 Town sedan and original type on a 30 Briggs Fordor. For a "tour car" I prefer the modern type. JMHO.

I placed my name on a list for shocks from Stipes a few weeks ago. They told me they are taking orders right now and will make a new run of shocks in about three months.

WOW!!! GREAT THANK YOU!!! I do not want any 32 parts on my vehicle!! What a super great help you are!! Thank you. I do appreciate your help!

Robert Paul in CO may have some rebuilt originals. They have had good reviews and are (were) reasonably priced.

I believe you have answered your own question, if you truly want it "...looking as perfect as I can make it." then the only answer is original style sold by the vendors.
