could someone tell me the difference between 28/29 and 30/31 rumble lids and also the difference between the inside gutters for them. I have 30/31 gutters and a 28/29 body. also have a 30/31 trunklid and looking for a 28/29 rumble lid. thanks

kevins site is great
but rule of thumb
28-29 rain gutters are screwed in,as are ALL cabriolets including 30-31
while 30-31 are spot welded in,
they will interchange
the difference is, as pointed out by kevin ,is the latch position
which can be moved

Ahhh, now I know why I can't get that darned trunk lid to latch. It's a 28-29 on a 30 coupe. So vonpahrkur where are you located......there might be a trade in the works.

Is there way to tell if a late 30 coupe was originally fitted with a rumble seat? I have curved inner panel, a cutout in the upper gutter (for a rumble latch?) but the rear gutter braces do not have the large center hole shown in the replacement replacement rumble hinge brace.

I am not sure if I am just badly confused or muddled by wishful thinking

on the upper side of the drain trough ,are there 3 holes for the hinge of a trunk?
the inner curved piece would have been swapped out
under the floor pan are the bumper braces spot welded in?
on the rumble lid are there capture nuts in the lid itself for mounting the hinge
the lid could have been swapped out
also on the upper part of the lid would be holes where the lid part of the hinge would have been
many swap them out and leave the holes
if you need photos let me know

Thanks Tom.....Yes there are trunk hinge holes in the gutter. The curved piece is pretty beat up but appears original to the car(?). The bumper braces (if I am seeing correctly) are bolted, not welded. I am not sure the lid itself will tell much as it appears to be an incorrect 28-29 replacement on a 30.

One more question: What type of gasket material goes in the gutter?

Thanks again, Jerry

I do not recall any type of gasket material that was placed between the gutter assembly and the flange on the body for which it is bolted to. There is no mention of any in the Body Parts lists either.

I'm working on a 28 roadster that came with a 30-30 rumble lid with the handle hole set back. I'm going to leave it that way so the latch won't dent the panel above the lid. Hope this works. It's a tour car.

on a rumble lid there are two
aluminum? wedges at the top sides to keep it from rattling
but there is nothing inside like weatherstrip
