Model A parts

Just the first load alone was nearly $2000.Lots of engine/transmission combos.Lots of rolling chassis too.I didn't look at the other loads, but he told me I wouldn't have been too interested in the last load.It was a half dozen doodlebugs with truck rear ends, two transmissions, etc. Those had been under the barn, not in it and probably were just a lot of scrap.I knew better than to ask him for just a few things, when he has three guys on the payroll waiting for him to come back. When he lets the clutch out on his truck he has a pretty good idea how much he has on board. He offered me the first load for $15-$1700,or something like that. There is a scrapyard on the seacoast that is just that,a scrapyard. They did a cleanout of a barn that had dozens of A engines in it.The old boy there had collected them through the 50's,and would tinker them up,run them for a while and leave them on their stands. The scrapper that picked them up loaded them up pretty carefully, and unloaded them the same way.He knew nothing about clubs so he looked around for one.He only found an antique auto club but they knew of some A guys in a club.He wanted scrap price for the stuff,it was around $3-$3500.at the time.Scrap wasn't very high at the time, but the A guy said sure, you have 40 engines but they are all a pig in a poke. They might all be worthless.Well, they were worth scrap price. They all got scrapped.I only found out when I hauled in a load of steel.I saw a couple of guys stripping the copper out of what looked like A starters and generators. Then the owner told me the story. The guy that used to do my babbit work had 6 or 700 engines stashed in a couple of barns.I don't have any idea what is happening with his stuff.Looking in a dim barn and seeing A engines as far as you can see is quite a sight.Actually Steve Ciccalone contacted me and warned me not to take any blocks up to get poured. That is how he had found out,he had taken an engine over to drop without knowing the man had died.Embarrassing, but at least he was friends with the widow so they had a nice visit anyway.

I like several others did not know of the parts for sale. Not suprising knowing how the last few months have been. I would have been in the market for a couple of B engines earlier this year. Likely it will be quite awhile before I am buying any parts again. Rod

As a very successful man once said to me, "The time to sell is when you don't need to! Why Wait till you need to?" As was mentioned by others, "Why wasn't this stuff mentioned on Ford barn"? $5.00 apiece? I would have probably dropped at least $20-30 with you. At Hershey this year, I saw a lot of unrealistic prices and walked away. Don't forget Craigs list.
