Model a kicks backwards

My humble opinion. I don't use the NuRex setup. I tried it and like many others had poor service. I've used the original style points and condenser most of my life and I understand it . I can see no advantage in the modern set up. I don't set my timing by the spark lever. I first adjust the points. I check for full movement in both directions of the upper distributor plate. I set the timing by the direction of the rotor tip with all backlash in the counter clockwise direction and yes, If the spark lever is retarded, the points will be just ready to open. I have no need for a timing light. I use the timing pin to find TDC. I can't understand why some want to make it so difficult and complicated. Actually timing the model A is simple. The method that I descibe has no starter kickback when the spark is fully retarded. I hand crank them often just to show off. As for the Babbit , I've still got my first model A and after 53 years it still has the original babbit . My hearing may not be good as new but my wife doesn't have to ask me to take out the trash. insert smiley face.
