Model A Interiors

I thought you just went to a local trimmer and got them to cover absolutely everything in burgundy crushed velvet... seems to have been the "IN" thing at some stage over here

I just recieved the entire top, headliner, upholstery and carpet from L-B. I have not started installing it yet. I have been reading the "instructions". They are very poor. They were typed on an old manual typwriter back in the 1980's. There are just a few hand drawn illistrations to go with it. The first thing I did was call Cartouche and ask them for instructions. They emailed me a nice 21 page booklet with actual pictures. I have been told that some of the door panels may need to be trimmed with L-B. With Cartouche you send them the dimensions of the door so you can avoid trimming.
I just seemed to me that for as long as L-B has been around they should have something more helpfull than a 1980's era instruction sheet. In fact for the top of my car they said to refer to the Ford Service Bulletins book. Good Luck!

Funny you would mention door panels. I recently did a '30 Tudor with a kit from Mac's. Not only were the door panels 3/16" too tall, the holes for all the panel clips were so close to the edge of the panel that the clips would barely hold unto the panel. There is absolutely no excuse for either problem. There were numerous other issues that I don't have time to spell out but all the necessary alterations (seats and panels) were quite costly for the owner.

Yes, LB kits have their issues and I feel there is no excuse for not updating their instructions over the last 40 years. With that said, not only is the grass not greener on the other side of the hill I'd say it's quite brown.

do not buy Cartouche

I inherited my '30 coupe 2 years ago. The LB interior still looks like it did when it was first installed in the mid 70's. However, the kick panels and the rumble panels were out of the car, badly warpped and needed to be replaced. I was going to go with LB but decided to keep the money in the state (sc). I called Smith & Jones and bought the kick and rumble panels ($80 cheaper than LB). The kick panels were too wide and too tall. The rumble panels were too short and too long and did not have the holes near the bottom where you can reach the rear body bolts. I took them back along with the old panels and showed them the differences. I told them that I didn't know who their supplier was and they should have a long talk with them and that I was going to call LB, which is what I should have done in the beginning. They refunded my money and apologized all over the place. I later found out that it was Cartouche. I'm surprised that Macs stays in business selling the crapola that they do.

I visited LB this month and was very impressed with the quality of their sample seats and panels. The videos at the website are very helpful. Yardage is very expensive, but I don't have a standard of comparison.
