Model A Interiors

I don' t know if I can ask this here but I will try.
I had to rip out my entire interior when my 31 was sitting in salt water from hurricane Sandy.
There are many companies that sell interiors and I was leaning towards LeBarron Bonney.
Can I get some thought here as to what you all think?
I have been doing my own interiors since 1965 and I did this whole car in 1978.
since then I have other options and internet for advice.

Thanks
Jack

I've used LeBarron-Bonney in two A's and had excellent results for fit and wear. They were put in in the mid 80's and still look great!

I have LeBarron Bonney interior in my coupe it was done by the previous owner I guess it has about 4-5 years on it and still looks new. There are some spots where he did not do a great job on the install but I do like the interior.

That's where I go for mine. It's a high quality product and if you are having problems there customer service is excellent. I have used them on (2) open cars and (1) coupe and all three worked out well. Especially the tops on the open cars.

You can't go wrong with a First-Class ticket. L-B delivers just that, and stands behind their work if you should have a problem. My only wish for their products is that they could somehow moth-proof their fabrics.

Do not buy cartouche crapola
Drivers seat is worn out from sitting in it and so is the door panel from my knee touching it. My car gets very little use and is trailered most of the time . Never again
look at the seat in my avatar next to the tommy

My car's interior is LeBarron Bonney. Installed 35 years ago and looks great. Just getting broken in....and it will mean something at resale.

I am just now doing my interior on a 28 tudor. I can't speak for LeBarronBonney, I have never put one in. I went with Cartouche. I got the samples from both, and Cartouche seemed better. I am installing it now, and the instructions are horrible. The photos are 1.5 inch, and the details are very poor. It takes 4-5 sentences to tell you the difference between the backrest and the seat cushion. Then says "Cover the backrest". Most of what I have learned was from LeBarron Youtube videos. Because, due to the poor instructions, I have had to disassemble, and reassemble several steps. I had to buy more hog clips, and the clip pliers they send you last for 3-4 clips and breaks. I got a nice one from harbor freight for $8, well worth it. If it is $8 at harbor freight, they could get a a deal with Harbor freight, and change them. Coustomers would be much happier. Nothing makes you more upset than getting all set to do a project, and 20 minutes into it, the cheap tool breaks, and you spend the rest of the day looking for a better one. Really upsetting.
There is no contact 'Hotline' or any other way to contact them for any assistance. If you need to replace a piece, you're out of luck
I did save a lot of money, and I pray that it lasts. If I had to do it again, I would probably go with L-B.
I hope this helps, and I hope you and your family are safe from the storm.

Being on S.S. and a craftsman, I am "trying" to do it all myself, including the wooden frames/bases , springs, and fabric installation. I have a friend who is a professional seamstress with the proper machines, who I think can do the sewing (Haven't talked to her about it yet) I'm trying to get the yardage for the seats in my Town Sedan. I'm estimating 10-12 running yds, 54 inches wide. Anyone know how far off I am?
Terry

Hey Terry , I'm trying to do my interrior myself also, I'm doing a 31 roadster and I'm also in N J . Would you happen to know how much cotton material goes over the springs, and how its fasened??I have a walking foot machine and although it takes me awhile I can make a verry nice boat seat cover so I'm giving it a try. Maybe we can help each other out. GOOD LUCK STEVE

The only experience I have is with L.B. I installed the kit myself and everytime I had a problem they helped me. Most of the time the problem was my lack of experience installing thier kit (it was the first interior I ever installed). I toured their facility 5 or so years ago and was impressed with the people.

I would use them again.

i have used cartouche in my forty. i don,t know where CPTVA bought his. i bought mine from macks. had one proulbem with the rear rug . i called them got help right away they sent me an other one no charge no shipping .the kit was a 1000.00 cheaper than lb to me thats a lot of money. ps i had ordered samples from lb & cartouche could not tell the difference i don,t think either co makes there own meterals . who knows may be they get there suplies from the same place i have used lb on other cars & had fit proulbms thats why i tried cartouch

Jack-

A suggestion for you. I have older L/B interior in the Tudor and needed to buy 2 new things to replace a couple damaged parts of the interior. I sent a sample of the material from the damaged seat cover to them, and they matched to a current dye lot as close as possible. It isn't perfect, but darn close.

If you really want perfect match on something you need redone in the future, I suggest you purchase some extra material and store it somewhere safe in case you need them to make another seat cover for you. Then, you can send them the fabric and have a perfect match.

I just ordered a complete interior from LBB as that are having a 10% off till the 23rd sale to boot.
Nice people to deal with and I have been using them for over 30 years.
They know their stuff when it comes to interiors.

Thanks
Jack

Terry -

I was planning on purchasing a LeBaron -Bonney kit for my fordor, but the local fellow that most folks around here go to for upholstery work, said his installation charge was the same as the cost of the kit (roughly $3000.00), or he would make all of the interior from scratch for $3500 - $4000 if I provided the materials. He asked that I get seven (7) yards of fabric for the seats. I was also told that the yardage for the headliner, interior roof panels, and door panels, was about nine (9) yards. Hope this helps as far as the seat yardage estimates go. Good luck in your endeavors.

I just recieved the entire top, headliner, upholstery and carpet from L-B. I have not started installing it yet. I have been reading the "instructions". They are very poor. They were typed on an old manual typwriter back in the 1980's. There are just a few hand drawn illistrations to go with it. The first thing I did was call Cartouche and ask them for instructions. They emailed me a nice 21 page booklet with actual pictures. I have been told that some of the door panels may need to be trimmed with L-B. With Cartouche you send them the dimensions of the door so you can avoid trimming.
I just seemed to me that for as long as L-B has been around they should have something more helpfull than a 1980's era instruction sheet. In fact for the top of my car they said to refer to the Ford Service Bulletins book. Good Luck!

LeBaron Bonney has some videos on their website which may be helpful. They were helpful to me when I did the interior in my dad's car.
