Model A insurance?

Just be very sure to double check any driving restrictions shown in the fine print; some companies frown on regular use to many places we take for granted. That is why I also switched to AAA.

I used to have my Model A insurance with AAA, but they switched me to American Modern. They said they no longer carried antique/classic car or agreed value insurance any longer. I am also in Southern California. Do you have agreed value with AAA, or do you carry "regular modern car" type insurance on your Model A?

I have agreed value classic car insurance with AAA. I have a different policy for my my moderns. And I have my house insured thru AAA also so we get the multi-policy discount.

Check with the company you currently use for your homeowners and daily driver(s). You have a history with them so they may be able to steer you in the best direction.

Heacock aka American Modern based in Lakeland, FL. They insure my collection, and i left haggerty long ago. $48 a year with zero deductible and a $10K value, towing and the usual total coverage. Never had a claim except for a $50 tow bill that was reimbursed within the week.

I have Allstate insurance for my moderns, my house(s), and for my Model A (with agreed value)

For what its worth, I would advise against J.C. Taylor. I had terrible experience with them on a claim several years back. I have since switched to Hagerty - no claims thankfully to this point, so no idea about potential claims with them. Good Luck regardless.

I am about getting my insurance from State Farm Insurance and here is the quote from them, is this a good deal?

I have the quote ready for you J. For antique cars there are some special requirements before we can insure though, first we must have a picture of all sides (exterior), interior, and the engine. It can only be driven 2000 miles a year and it should not be used for normal driving. We insure antique vehicles that are used for “exhibitions, club activities, parades, or similar functions of public interest”. I also highly advice that you get an appraisal for the vehicle.

Years ago I had my '69 Corvette insured with State Farm (there's a story there also, but I won't go into it on this post). My primary concerns with your quote would be the mileage restraints, and the fact that it appears that they might try to argue a violation and possibly deny coverage if you drove the car anywhere other than to a local club outing or similar pre-designated event. As a former practicing attorney, I have seen insurance companies apply very strict interpretations when faced with paying claims. As for me, I like to occasionally drive one of my cars to dinner, over to a friend's house, or take an occasional "drive in the country", none of which would be covered under the restrictions you referenced above. I might recommend that you look for someone who does not place these types of limitations on your use of your car. Best of luck to you in your search.

JD, I've used both Hagerty and Grundy, for some reason they are almost identical in price, only vary by three or four bucks. Both are good I guess but I have never had a claim.

Hagerty advertises 'one Liability charge' on the first vehicle and then no charge for that on the remainder of your cars. I never understood that as they charged me Liability on each car I insured with them?? For me there was no savings there. But as someone said, each state is different and it also depends just where in the state you live so maybe that was why. I need to call them and have them explain this your post jiggled my memory.

Both companies were easy to deal with on the phone, very polite.

1929ier, that appears to be the cost for only 6 months.
My Grundy policy is for 12 months, even though I never drive the car for 6 months of road salt.

That's why I am here to see what you all have to said about the quote. Good informations from you all. Hope to hear more stories from here. Cheers!

Good point Terry.

For the record, copy/pasted from the Hagerty website at https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/ask-hagerty/what-is-limited-use

"Our policy is a flexible, limited use policy. We do not, however, limit you to just show and club use. Occasional pleasure driving fits our underwriting guidelines, but our policy is not intended for vehicles regularly driven to work or school or for running errands. We look for usage that is consistent with owning a valuable automobile and the availability of insured regular-use vehicles for daily transportation. While the average mileage generally put on a collector vehicle is approximately 2,000-3,000 miles annually, our policy language does not state a specific mileage limitation.

This limited, flexible use policy includes coverage for pleasure driving. That may mean taking your family out to dinner, out for ice cream or on an enjoyable Sunday cruise, for example. Taking the vehicle once in a blue moon to work to show it off is acceptable as well. We ask that you as the owner of a collectible vehicle make the decisions that are right for your situations. We have not had a problem with our clients abusing the privilege of flexible usage, so we are able to continue without the strict guidelines that some of our competitors may have. We would prefer that you do not take the vehicle to high-risk parking lots, such as the gym or the mall."

Both of my Model A's are with Hagerty.

Kencoupe-- I have had my AAA policy for several years now, and I have not been notified of any changes. I do have my other cars and home policy with them. Grundy is the one I had prior, and they do not want you to run errands in your Model A, and that is one of my main uses here.....going to the grocery store, Post Office, even Costco. I probably average two of those kinds of trips a week. And yes, I do have agreed value.

I have already posted my antique car insurer, but for my four modern auto's I use liberty mutual, which I also insure my house. Now the reason I am reposting is that I have looked at all other posts, and can believe that anyone with any knowledge of insurance would ever use state farm, they are the worse insurance company in the world. E.P.W.
