model a head

Dad and I left the plugs in and turned the engine over by hand and she popped right off. At least the seal broke and then it came down to lifting up front then rear and front etc. We ended up using screwdrivers VERY CAREFULLY to get it up high enough for our fingers. Came right up without a hitch.

Looks like it is once again time for Gord's Head Puller to resurface. If this is "David", maybe we can get Gord By The Bay to respond so you can get it touch with him. That is a wonderful tool and to me it has never failed. I also made one with a cutout to remove the head with the distributor still stuck in to keep from taking the chance of breaking the distributor housing.

Here was my Rube Goldberg removal fixture. I have two old plugs with welded in threaded stock. A 1 in square tube with holes for the studs from the plugs to go through with another 1 in square tube welded next to it with holes to bolt the chain too. A couple of camper jacks, a 4X4 and the rest is history. You may laugh and I'm pretty sure you srel but it worked. Good luck

I left the plugs in took all the nuts off and hit the starter and then carefully pried it up

Heym what ever works and does not do damage to head, valves, block and all. Looks like it did a good job for you.

I used a puller and was glad I did. I tried the rope trick but was afraid I was going to bend a rod. The puller worked great. The studs were pretty mucked up and it was sort of like pulling an old boot out of the mud. Where are you located, I'd be willing to loan you the puller for postage both ways...
