Model A Gas Gage Face Plate

I have a 29 gas gauge that is missing the face plate. When I look at the judging stds it states the one I need is a horizontal oval. Can't find it in vendors catalogs only round ones. Any source for this part?

Thanks - Hunter

Hunter,
I think your only hope is to find a good original gas gage and rebuild it. I have been looking for a couple of good ones for a while now. One of the toughest things is to replate the face plate and then mask it to paint the black upper and lower parts. If you are looking for some inner and outer nuts that are nickel plated, you might try Dan Bixby at [FONT=&quot]816 213 8437. He might also have a restored oval plate, but I am not sure he does that. Dan sells a lot of items (mostly restored) on eBay and at swap meets. Since you are doing a fine points car, Make sure you tell him that if you talk to him. He is an honest parts supplier. He will tell you if it the part is good for a fine points car or not. BTW, how is the coupe coming along.

Try Berts in Denver. I wire wheel the old paint off, then using a razor blade and thin steel rule, I cut a piece of celephane tape the width of the line and carefully place it across the center of the hole. cut the tape in the center of the hole and wrap the ends around the hole to the back side. Spray the face plate with rattle can semigloss black laquer, and after it sets up good remove the tape and you have a nice indicator line.

I do not believe it. No one has written 'Guage' [ 'goo-arge'?] Pet rant of mine.
Yes, it is 'gauge' or also 'gage' which is very easy.
I'll go back to sleep now.
