Model A engine installation

Hi Larry,

Not many of us hit the jackpot twice ..... first the local rebuilder ..... second is your most charitable above lucky #13 guy ....... lucky, lucky.

And lucky for you, everyone of us is "not" your neighbor.

We would probably all kill the grass on your front lawn standing in line trying to help with your engine.

Just go for it and let us know how it goes.

Not just the most charitable Mr. Ryan Cochran's reply with his request for a report ...... but, you no doubt would be shocked to learn how many silent voices here are wishing and wanting to see your return.

I am kind of new to model A's, as I took over a 15 year old project never completed by my son and his grandfather after my father-in law passed. For my own edification: my question to all of the historians on here is how did Henry do it originally on the production line?? GDG

Unfortunately Marco doesn't post here lately, but he has many good assembly line pictures, and the engine and ****** went in together, but before the body went on. That's how I would do it with the body off the frame, but with the body on the frame I like the ****** installed first. Working alone it makes it easier.

I also work alone, I am in complete agreement with Tom.

Good Day!

Thanks. and not to hi jack this thread

The car is a earlier 1928 model (left side parking brake) I was told it is all original and complete. no documentation as how the took everything apart, Just a basket / pile of stuff

I have not been able to dig down into the trailer we moved it down here in to find out the serial numbers. The running gear is complete and I was able to turn the motor over by hand before pushing into the trailer. The body, fenders, radiator etc is in fair shape but the sub frame is really bad.

First I am going to try to get the engine cleaned up and running, before I start anything else. I may need to remove the engine and stuff for repair and it is only me and my wife doing the work, so this thread is coming at just the right time in my build.

We do have about a 3 ft tall stack of model A books that my father in law had collected, reading every thing until the days get longer and have more time to work outside.

Thanks
GDG

If you have the multiplate clutch be sure the discs are in alignment before trying to install it into the flywheel.

I did one for a body shop about 10 years ago, and someone had pushed the clutch with the engine out, so the discs were all out of alignment. I used two round shaft Phillips screwdrivers and pushed them in between the teeth while someone pushed and release the clutch pedal. Everything went smoothly.
