Model A Electric Motor Drivetrain?

I have two side by side electric carts and get 6 to 7 years out of Trojan batteries using them every day on a ranch.

Henry would approve of your electric A project!!!!

There is an electric Model A at Potlatch museum outside of Ketchikan Alaska

The coupe would be better as you could stuff batteries in the boot/trunk. Also, the loaded weight is less.

I considered doing this at one point but decided I'd end up with a car that wasn't one thing or the other.

If you are on the beginning of the learning curve of electric tech you may consider building an electric bike first. A bicycle and an electric motor is a match made in heaven. Add a few hundred watts to a bike on the hills and riding becomes a pleasure. You can stretch the battery time by peddling more, when it runs out peddle home. I'd suggest a mountain bike with a 'center drive', keep the weight low and centered and mountain biking is a blast.

I use lithium LiFePO4 batteries. These are the least likely to burn your house down. Endless-sphere.com is a good forum.

Why not just buy an old electric car, they were made in the teens and twenties, they must be for sale somewhere.

Not with my Model A but I do like the idea of Electric cars (> 90% efficient )The main problem is stored electric energy per/lbs of battery weight

I think the likely winner will be hydrogen fuel cells in the end... but stay tuned...

I've always liked the idea of an electric car, but battery power just isn't practical yet. I still wouldn't mind a diesel Rabbit engine in my Model A, just to see what it would get for mileage. My Rabbits always got 55-57 MPG.

All things must pass.. Even gas engines..
In my corner of the world, I am already noticing that small old time corner gas stations are disappearing. Electric Vehicles are getting better and better. I have a Nissan Leaf that I use for short trips. I enjoy it as much as my old roadster.

So.. If when gas cars start to go the way of the horse, i want a plan B to keep the old ford on the road !

I have a Tesla that I converted to gasoline power, dropped a Roush 351 crate motor in there. No more battery fires and much better range. However it has an oil leak that keeps spotting my garage floor.

I would not start worrying yet. We all know that ethanol in gas was a terrible mistake with damage to small engines, reduced power & milage, increased cost in the food chain, and INCREASED air pollution. Yet we still suffer with it. Can you say corn lobby?

If you think the corn lobby is strong wait until you see the oil lobby in action!
