Model A Coupe Upholstery Kit

I want to re-do the interior of my '31 Model A Coupe. I've talked with Classtique and am getting material samples from them. I have done a search and a company called Cartouche came up, but when looking at their website it appears they don't have interior kits. Are there other reputable upholstery kit providers out there that are maybe under the radar?

Thanks

Lynn

I have heard not so good things about Cartouche kits. I believe they quit making model A upholstery kits anyway. I believe since LeBaron Bonney went belly up some time ago (for good reason after installing the upholstery kit in my 29 phaeton, Classtique is the only company making kits now. I think they are pretty backlogged.

Backlogged is a conservative term. I was told today (Sept, 22) that they're currently estimating new orders will be delivered in February 2026.

If you have the original upholstery installed but it is in bad condition, you could maybe find a local upholstery shop to re do the upholstery. On my way home yesterday I passed a sign on the side of the road that advertised custom automotive upholstery. North Carolina is too far for you but maybe you can find some help locally. If you are trying to save money by doing it yourself then a kit is a good way to go. If you have experience with sewing projects then look at the heavy duty sewing machines on www.sailrite.com.

Classtique is comparable to what Lebaron Bonney was. I rate their kit as the best available, and their customer service is excellent.

I just shook the hand of Mike Francis (Classique) and interviewed him at Model A Days. You'll see him talk about his kits and I will show you what he is doing for the Mishawaka High School kids in the video coming this weekend.

Mike Francis is a force of nature. He spends a lot of resources researching original fabrics and tries to find suppliers who will duplicate the originals as closely as possible. He manufactures trim hardware himself. Thank God the hobby has someone like Mike.

Thank you for all of the kind comments on here. I don't have a lot of extra time, so I'm not on here often. Reading these comments motivates me to give even more effort to the industry. Thank you!

Lynn,

I don't know how far you are willing to take your car, but someone in our local club used a shop here in NC and was very pleased with the work. Below is part of the email and the contact information. I suggest, if you are willing, to buy the kit from Classtique and then arrange to have the upholstery done at this shop here in NC. That is if you cannot find a local shop that everyone is pleased with.

A thought is that Calvin may be able to recommend a local shop in your area.

Calvin did the installation of the top and interior of my 1931 68-c Cabriolet last winter and I was extremely pleased with his work. I had to wait several months "in line" before taking my car to him, but once he had my car the installation was done within a few weeks.

Another club member had Calvin make a truck cover and was equally pleased.

Here is Calvin's contact info:
