Model A - but Not Model A - Say What!?

1903 was the year of the first model A,, I had one.. I'm not sure how many were made or how many are left,, but,, I know of 3 within a fairly short distance.. He pretty much went thru all the letters to 'T' and for some reason decided to start all over again..

I have always known there was an earlier version of the Model "A". Also one of Fords failed attempts at car making became the Caddilac. You can have the Hemmings Daily News sent to your inbox. I read it every day.

Our club went on a tour last month to visit a private collection that had at least two of these early A's, plus an AC, a B, a K, an N, an R, an S and several T's. Plus an assortment of cars in process. A truly overwhelming collection.

"Also one of Fords failed attempts at car making became the Caddilac".??????????

Henry Ford and Henry Leland had differing opinions on what should power a car. Leland wanted to use a one cylinder engine he developed for Oldsmobile whereas Henry Ford wanted to make the car 2 cylinder horizontally opposed.

In the end, Leland convinced the company not to disolve over the disagreement and convinced them to build what became the Cadillac. Henry Ford left the company and produced his car with the same purchased body and it became the first Model A.

And then... Cadillac got absorbed into General Motors, Leland founded Lincoln Motors, and then Henry Ford bought Leland's company and established Edsel as its head. None of this smacks of failure in my mind.
