Model A brakes

If there is more weight in the rear and the wheels lock up first, is there not more braking force in the rear?

Older people still to this day can have problems riding a bicycle because they were taught that the front brake makes you go over the handle bars!

If you modify a brake system for a paying customer, then end up in court, what could happen?

I am older people (72) and do not believe this. Having raced both bicycles and motorcycles, I am well aware that careful control of front/rear wheel brake balance with much attention paid to the road conditions is essential for continuing good health. On good dry pavement, the front wheel is the one that does most of the stopping. In most situations over-heavy rear wheel braking will set up a skid that could put you on your ear, or with a four wheel vehicle - in the ditch!

Chrysler Corp appears to think the same way as they only put ABS on the rear wheels of my truck.

Goggle the article on Brake Adjustment by Bill Rauscher and Jack Thomas. A different way of setting up the brakes that works well. Used this set-up on a 30 coupe today and the car stopped in 3 car lenghts.

Worth a read. John Poole
P.S. I was given this by another club member. Pay it forward.

I read the link posted by Dick. Good article. Thanks

Thats basically the way I adjust them, except, I would never have thought about that spreader bar. Thats pretty slick.

I've had to lock the brakes on a couple occasions, and, they will.

Reference the original post. I have a pair of custom front brake levers. See the pic below. I bought them from a fellow FordBarn'r (Greg out West?) a few years ago. He never used them, but did say they came from a well know Model-A shop back in the 70's. It was located somewhere around LA, CA, I think. Like most of my "projects" this one
got set a side for the next one, etc., etc. I have acquired a pair of repop
rear brake levers and they are doable. If I can just get off my butt and try these on a car.....
