Mitchell and 3.54 gears

My 36 has a well built 59AB engine, the differential is a 46-48 Columbia with 3.78 gearing, 600x16 tires. I tried 26 tooth Lincoln gears in the trans in my '36 for a very short while, big mistake. The car was totally gutless. I went back to a 28 tooth gear set and decided to leave the gearing alone..

The Lincoln gear ratios work best when coupled with a low rearend gear, something like a 4:11. They were the drag racing setup, closer ratio between 1st & 2nd & 3rd.

Hello Mr. Stud. Can you give us a RPM comparison, in and out of overdrive, at a given road speed?

I would say probably 500 rpm drop in overdrive. If it's in 2nd but you engage the mitchell it's almost like being in 3rd. In 3rd overdrive the car cruises at 60 at about 1600 rpm, as opposed to around 2100 out of overdrive. I'm not sure how accurate my old tach is though.

Right, they work great in a light roadster with a low gear where you don't need the torque to get going but you can keep the rpm's up as you go through the gears. I wouldn't use them in anything else or anything with an overdrive where you can split the gears.
