This problem crept up earlier this week.
My engine developed a distinct miss-fire. Traced it down and the #4 cylinder was not firing. All the proper tests done; grounding out one cylinder at a time, swapping plugs between cylinders, checking all the electrical connections, point gap, plug gap, etc. Still no fire (or not much anyway) on #4. Grounding out 1,2,or 3 produced a drop in rpm, grounding out #4 didn't.
Did a compression test and #4 was 10+# higher than the other 3. I didn't have a baseline to compare it to, so don't know if this was a change or what. The #4 spark plug was all black, whereas the electrodes on the other 3 were grey. And like I mentioned above, swapping the plugs didn't change the location of the "miss".
Changed out the rotor, dist body, cap, plug & coil wires.
All amounted to little or no change.
Even my "mentor" was baffled!
Any suggestions????
