Upper distributor shaft worn? That will cause wild and crazy things to happen while driving. As I recall most (FUEL) problems turn out to be electrical in nature. I have noticed over the years the magnetic attraction to the carburetor. I never have figured it out. Check the easy first, working toward the more complicated. Do you have Kettering or electronic ignition?
