Misidentified 60 & 61 Mercury Hubcaps

I was aware of these Small Block V8 Engines that were released starting in the Compact Fairlane in 1962, but I was only listing the V8's that were available in the full size cars.
I live in Australia & the 1962 Compact Fairlane with the 221 replaced the carry over 1959 Ford Fairlanes that remained in production with slight trim differences until early 1962. We never received any true 60 or 61 big Fords. These Compact Fairlanes were sold here in 62, 63 & 64 and were updated annually, just as they were in the USA.
It is obvious that many buyers here still wanted the Full Size Fords, so a very limited supply of 64 Galaxies were offered here. That all changed in 1965 when Ford Australia discontinued offering the Compact Fairlane, and introduced the 1965 Ford Galaxie. Insistently, the 65 Galaxie was the first Ford sold in Australia with Full Wheel Covers. Prior to this, all Fords in Australia, regardless of model came with the small Dog Dish Hubcaps.

"My apology for the misinformation."

No need to apologize Mercman. It's all fun to me. A big learning process.

I found a carburetor application listing that shoes a 352 available in 1960 and 1961, but with a 2 barrel carb only, except for a high perf 352 in 1960 with a 4 barrel carb.
Not sure how accurate this is, because they also show the 406 as the biggest engine in '61. Those didn't appear until '62 as far as I know.

The 312 was not offered in a Ford after 1957. The base V8 in Fords from 1958 through 1962 was the 292. In 1963, the Y Block was dropped and the range was extended to include the 352, 390, 406 and 427.

289s were first offered in 1963 in the full size Fords as well. My brother bought a new '63 Custom (full size) 2 door sedan in April it had a 289, 3 speed trans.

I think the 223 cid 6 cylinder engines were also still available in the full size Fords till 1965 when they were replaced with 240s.

292s were available in Ford pickups in 1964 which I think was the last production run for the old Yblocks in vehicles. If memory serves, they were gone in '65, replaced with 352s which dad had in his '65 F250, bought new in June or July that year. I don't remember if 289s were ever offered in Ford pickups. 302s were available in them in - I think - 1969 or 70. I had a '70 F100 with a 360 3spd, and a '71 with 302/C4.

I forgot to include a modifier in my original post that the SBF first appeared in full-size cars in '63 with the 260 cu.in. Challenger V8, replacing the 292 Y-block. I had a December '62-build '63 Galaxie 500 'box-top' hardtop with a 3-on-the-tree that eventually dropped a valve, but that's another story. As noted by another poster, the 289 was also used in '63s when they came on-line in midyear production. So much for keeping a thread on-topic...:o
