Minor Seat Modification for Deluxe Tudors

My wife often accepts my invitation to ride in the back in our '31 Deluxe Tudor. The rear seat is really like a living room couch and it makes the driver's position far more comfortable without a passenger riding shotgun. That said, the folded passenger seat still makes ingress and egress a little bit awkward for a 76 year old lady. Accordingly, I removed the pivot bolts and replaced them with 3/8" x 1-1/8" Cotterless Hitch Pins. Now it's a simple matter to pull the pins and remove the seat. A side benefit is that the space opened up makes a great spot for a picnic basket or ice chest once your passenger is on board. I hope Henry won't be too upset!

25 years ago while in Mexico City on Business, all old style VW Bug taxi's had no front passenger seat. Made the Bug seem HUGH inside.

I used 2 hitch pin clips, just at the outside of the front back rests, on my '46 Ford Convertible, in 7 1/2 seconds, we had RECLINING seats, for sleeping!

Sounds like a great idea. I'm going to do the same.

For the record, once the nuts are removed the bolts simply slide out. They are not threaded into the uprights or the seat piece. One of my bolts took a heck of a lot of persuasion, with me thinking it was threaded into the upright. WD-40 did the trick but I still had to "chase" the holes out slightly on the seat and the uprights with a 3/8" drill bit to make the pins fit smoothly. A tab of grease on all parts also made for a smooth fit. ---and one last comment - it's easier to remove or re- install the seat by removing or inserting the pins from the front with the seat in its' normal upright position.
